What to expect
A bouncy but comfortable 4×4 ride across red sand and between towering jebels, with short walks at each stop. You will visit canyons carved with ancient petroglyphs, climb natural rock bridges and sandboard down the dunes if you choose, with sweet Bedouin tea brewed in the shade. The day ends at a sunset viewpoint where the whole valley turns crimson. Expect heat by day and a cool, quiet evening — bring a warm layer if you are staying for sunset or overnight.

- Accessibility
- Wadi Rum is a natural desert environment reached by 4×4 jeep over sand and rock. It is not wheelchair accessible and involves short walks on uneven ground at each stop. We can shorten walks and choose easier viewpoints for travelers with limited mobility — let us know in advance.
- Physical requirements
- Good fitness required — canyon trails with uneven ground, elevation change and sustained walking. Not suitable for travelers with heart, knee or back conditions.
- Seasonal considerations
- Wadi Rum is best from October to April when desert days are warm and nights are crisp. Summer days are extremely hot and nights are warm; winter nights can drop close to freezing — bring warm layers for the camp.
- Important notes
- Desert temperatures vary widely between day and night. Bring a warm layer for the evening. Camp accommodation ranges from shared tents to private en-suite tents — check your tour’s inclusions. Every tour group entering Jordan at the Arava / Wadi Araba (Eilat–Aqaba) border must be accompanied by a licensed Jordanian guide. If you are arriving at this border, we add a guiding fee of USD 175 per tour day for your whole group (not per person). Example: a 2-day tour adds USD 350. New Year's Eve: hotels and desert camps across Jordan charge a compulsory New Year's Eve gala dinner of about $50–100 per person, paid on site. We will confirm the exact amount.
- What to bring
- Sturdy shoes for sand and rock; Sun hat, sunglasses & sunscreen; 1–2 litres of water per person; Warm layer for the desert evening (it gets cold after sunset); Sand/dust protection for cameras and phones; Cash (JOD) for tea, souvenirs and optional camel rides

Local tips
- Entrance fees are not included. If you stay at least 2 nights (3 days) in Jordan, check whether the Jordan Pass suits your plan; it is bought online before you arrive.
- Carry water, a hat and sun protection; many sites have little shade.
- Start early when you can; mornings are cooler for walking.
Frequently asked questions
Is the overnight camp included?
Only on tours that list a Bedouin camp night in "What’s included". The sunset jeep safari is a day experience unless an overnight is specified.
What are the camp facilities like?
Standard camps offer shared tents and shared bathrooms; luxury camps offer private tents with en-suite bathrooms. Both include dinner and breakfast.
Can I ride a camel?
Yes — camel rides are usually an optional add-on (around 10 JOD) at golden hour. Mention it when you book.
Is it safe?
Yes. Wadi Rum is a protected area and Bedouin hosts know it intimately. Bring water and sun protection and follow their advice.
What is the Jordan Pass, and is it required?
The Jordan Pass is an official package from the Jordanian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities that bundles a tourist-visa fee waiver with entrance tickets to around 40 of Jordan’s leading sites. It is entirely optional — you do not need it to travel with us, and you are welcome to pay each entrance fee individually at the gate instead. You buy it online before you arrive, show it at each site entrance, and it also waives the tourist visa fee when you stay at least 2 nights (3 days) in Jordan.
When is the Jordan Pass worthwhile, and what entrance fees does it cover?
The Pass covers entrance to Petra (one, two or three days depending on the tier), Jerash, Wadi Rum, the Dead Sea resorts, Mount Nebo, Madaba, Kerak, Ajloun, Bethany Beyond the Jordan and many more sites. For most travelers it pays for itself with a single Petra visit plus the visa waiver, so any additional site is effectively free — making it the best value if you are visiting Petra and at least one other major site, or staying two or more nights. Entrance fees are not included on any of our tours, so the Pass usually saves you money. We are happy to recommend the right tier for your itinerary — just ask.
