Overview

A full day tracing Jordan’s biblical heartland and its most famous natural wonder. Start at Madaba’s sixth-century mosaic map of the Holy Land, stand where Moses looked out over the Promised Land at Mount Nebo, then descend to the Dead Sea — the lowest point on Earth — to float effortlessly and cover yourself in mineral-rich mud. Private transport and a local driver throughout, with resort beach access included.

Highlights

  • See the sixth-century Madaba mosaic map of the Holy Land
  • Stand where Moses looked out over the Promised Land at Mount Nebo
  • Float at the lowest point on Earth (−430 m) in the Dead Sea
  • Cover yourself in mineral-rich black Dead Sea mud
  • Resort beach access with pools, showers and loungers

What to expect

A relaxed resort day at the lowest point on Earth. You will float effortlessly in the dense, mineral-rich water, cover yourself in natural black Dead Sea mud, then rinse off in fresh-water showers. The resort pass gives you beach access, pools, showers and loungers, so you can settle in for the afternoon. It is easy on the body and genuinely fun for all ages. Keep valuables dry, avoid shaving the morning you float, and limit float time to about 10–15 minutes.

Accessibility

Physical requirements
Minimal — gentle floating and resort walking. Suitable for all ages and most fitness levels.
Seasonal considerations
The Dead Sea can be enjoyed year round. Summer is hot but the water is refreshing; winter is mild and pleasant. Avoid midday sun in July–August and reapply sunscreen often.
Important notes
The Dead Sea is the lowest point on Earth (≈ 430 m below sea level). Float time of 10–15 minutes is plenty. Keep valuables dry and reapply sunscreen often. Every tour group entering Jordan at the Arava / Wadi Araba (Eilat–Aqaba) border must be accompanied by a licensed Jordanian guide. If you are arriving at this border, we add a guiding fee of USD 175 per tour day for your whole group (not per person). Example: a 2-day tour adds USD 350.
What to bring
Swimwear and a towel; Water shoes or old sandals (the salt crust is sharp); Sunscreen & hat (the Jordan Valley sun is strong); Sealed bag for electronics — do not take valuables into the water; A change of clothes; Avoid shaving the morning you float — open skin stings

Local tips

  • At the Dead Sea, float on your back, keep the water away from your eyes and don't shave the day before.
  • Water shoes help on the salty, stony shore; rinse off in the fresh-water showers after floating.
  • Bring clothing that covers shoulders and knees for churches, mosques and other religious sites.
  • Entrance fees are not included. If you stay at least 2 nights (3 days) in Jordan, check whether the Jordan Pass suits your plan; it is bought online before you arrive.
  • Carry water, a hat and sun protection; many sites have little shade.

Frequently asked questions

Can everyone float?

Yes — the high salt density makes everyone float effortlessly. Do not put your head under water and avoid shaving the morning you go.

Is the resort day pass included?

Check "What’s included". The resort pass gives you beach access, showers, pools and changing facilities and is highly recommended.

How long should I float?

10–15 minutes is plenty. Rinse off in the fresh-water showers afterwards and reapply sunscreen.

What is the Jordan Pass, and is it required?

The Jordan Pass is an official package from the Jordanian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities that bundles a tourist-visa fee waiver with entrance tickets to around 40 of Jordan’s leading sites. It is entirely optional — you do not need it to travel with us, and you are welcome to pay each entrance fee individually at the gate instead. You buy it online before you arrive, show it at each site entrance, and it also waives the tourist visa fee when you stay at least 2 nights (3 days) in Jordan.

When is the Jordan Pass worthwhile, and what entrance fees does it cover?

The Pass covers entrance to Petra (one, two or three days depending on the tier), Jerash, Wadi Rum, the Dead Sea resorts, Mount Nebo, Madaba, Kerak, Ajloun, Bethany Beyond the Jordan and many more sites. For most travelers it pays for itself with a single Petra visit plus the visa waiver, so any additional site is effectively free — making it the best value if you are visiting Petra and at least one other major site, or staying two or more nights. Entrance fees are not included on any of our tours, so the Pass usually saves you money. We are happy to recommend the right tier for your itinerary — just ask.
